day 120

I had dinner tonight with Jody and Arijana at one of my favorite chain restaurants - Macaroni Grill. Never really understood that name... macaroni on a grill is just not smart. Anyway, their Bellini's are fantastic! You have to have the one with the raspberry mixed in. Delish.

day 118

Usually, Jody finishes her beer well before me... well, not tonight!
We met up with Arijana for happy hour and tater tots at True North Tavern in North Park. What a nice way to spend a few hours on a school night!

day 117

Today my students painted the characters they created for our Dr. Seuss inspired project. I'm so impressed by what they have created so far and can't wait to see how the projects turn out!

day 116

Jody and I had lunch at the Coronado Brewing Company today. It was a beautiful afternoon so we sat out on their patio and enjoyed the sunshine. Living in San Diego is the best!

Testing mobile blogging...

day 115

Jody and I volunteered with Rebuilding Together today. They were rehabbing a house that belongs to the family of a SDPD police officer who passed way. We did a lot of painting and met some really nice people.

day 114

There was a dinner celebration tonight for LdV so before it started we went to La Bella's for a beer. On our way out I came across a machine with these stick-on mustaches in it and just couldn't resist them.

day 113

Hershey used to have a toy just like the one pictured above. I'm not exactly sure what happened to it but she LOVED it so much. When I saw it in a pet shop in San Francisco over the weekend, I couldn't pass it up. It's a log with three little squirrels in it. She loves to dig them out of there and can spend hours doing it over and over again. When I came home from work today, this was the first thing I saw as I entered the house. The little guy smiling at me from the hole on top made me giggle.

day 112

It's Earth Day! To do our part in the whole reduce, reuse, recycle arena, we had a swap meet in our classroom this morning. The kids brought in things they no longer use/want and sold them to each other. It's so much fun to watch them set up shop, carefully put prices on everything and the bargain like crazy to get a good deal.

I take A LOT of photos at school and really enjoy capturing the kids as they go about their day. I'm sure that I've said this before but it's such a bummer that I can't use those photos here... they have become such hams in front of the camera so I have been able to get some really fun shots of them.

day 111

I shot another wine event tonight for Off the Vine. It was held at BASIC which is in the Gaslamp Quarter right near Petco Park. I hadn't ever been there before but will certainly go back! You can see the rest of the photos I took here.

My REALLY big news for the night is that the charter I've been helping to create was approved UNANIMOUSLY tonight by the School Board. I didn't take any pictures there but I starred in a few. You can see those here. What an exciting night!

day 110

I don't generally think to take photos when I'm headed home from a trip. I came back to San Diego today and, thinking about the challenge, took lots of them. My flight arrived at about 3:30 and it was a crystal clear day so you could see for miles. Very cool!

day 108

Still don't want to pay the hotel so I'm holding out another day. I'll try to get some free access and post up tomorrow...

Update: I'm having breakfast at Sears Fine Food and guess what?! They have free WiFi! This is a photo I shot yesterday at SFMOMA. It's a sculpture by Matisse. See more photos from this day of the trip here.

day 107

I am in San Francisco with my sister! Yahoo!
The bad news is... that because I refuse to pay an extra $15.00 to access the Internet at our hotel (ridiculous!) I am posting via my cell phone for the first time tonight. I cannot post a photo so that will have to wait until the morning... grrr.

Update: I'm having issues uploading to Blogger for some reason so you'll have to see the photo here instead. I was able to upload some of the other shots from yesterday as well but I'm getting frustrated with how long it's taking. We're off to SFMOMA this morning and I don't want to waste my time here in Union Square trying to upload in free Wi-Fi land. I'll get them all up later...

day 106

Aaaah! I have been so busy getting ready for my trip that I forgot all about taking any photos today!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

day 105

I have become obsessed with photographing tulips.

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

day 104

I tagged along with Laurie and the girls this afternoon, on a trip to Ranch 99. It's a really cool Asian market and I had never been there before. I thought it would be a great photo op - and it was! There were so many interesting things to look at and so many things I had no idea people even ate. You can see the rest of the photos here.

Monday, April 13, 2009

day 103

Jody came over tonight and made us the most fabulous dinner! We had chicken wrapped with prosciutto, roasted red potatoes and broccoli, all smothered with an amazing Gruyere sauce. We found a random bottle of Argentinian chardonnay in my fridge which we polished off, too. Deelish!
Thank you so much J - you rock!

day 102

Happy Easter!

I discovered these cookies yesterday and they might just be my new favorite thing. They have the texture of cupcakes, which I absolutely love, and are the perfect size. I ate one this morning for breakfast to celebrate the day.

day 101

I moved into my place back in September and I'm just now starting to get things up on the walls. This spot is a part of my living room area. I bought the poster on Etsy and hung it next to two of my own photos. Next, I'm hoping to finally decide on the photos I want to hang in the upstairs hallway...

day 100

A small box showed up in my mailbox yesterday - an Easter present from my parents. In it were these little Smurfs. That might seem like an odd present for a 36 year old but there's a story behind these little guys.

When I was young, The Smurfs cartoon was very popular and I had a few of the little plastic figurines of the show's characters. My favorite was a little Baby Smurf figurine and I remember carrying it around with me everywhere I went.

The house we lived in at the time had a basement and there was a stairwell in the garage that led down to it. It was very dark and spidery so it scared me to go down there and I avoided it at all costs. My sister and I usually got along great but, as a big sister, she was required to torture me sometimes. (Can you see where this story is leading?) When she got mad at me, she would take my Baby Smurf and throw it down the stairwell. If I was lucky, it didn't fall all the way to the bottom and I did retrieve it several times though I was absolutely terrified about being down there. This little game gave her a lot of power over me, I'm sure. One day, she threw it into the deepest, darkest corner and I just didn't have the courage to go get it. I was heartbroken but also too afraid of Colleen to tell my parents what she had done so the Smurf stayed there. Eventually, we moved away and I never saw my beloved Smurf again.

My parents didn't hear that story until I was an adult and I think they felt bad that they couldn't have helped me battle my evil big sister back then.

Thanks a lot Mom and Dad! It's not my Baby Smurf but I love that you thought of me and sent me some little blue friends to help heal my broken heart...

day 99

Well, it took me most of the day but I got the closet finished all by myself! I wasn't expecting the shelf (that was in there) to be so hard to remove. It had no less than 40 very long nails holding it in place and it took a lot of wrestling to pry it from the wall. I had to patch it all up and repaint the area before I could even get started on the new shelving. I still need to reorganize the kitchen but that's not happening tonight. The sofa calls...

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

day 98

I spent the evening with the Woodwards and totally got a kick out of the girls. I love that they are so comfortable around me and that they let me tickle them even though we don't see each other all that often. Katherine wants me to come back and babysit and even said that I could bring along the dogs so they could hang out with Ulu.

Thanks for having me over you guys - I really had a great time!

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

day 97

This is a before shot of the closet that sits right by my front door. I bought an ELFA shelf system for it this weekend so that I can have some additional storage for the kitchen. My goal is to get it done by the end of the week... we'll see how that goes!

Monday, April 6, 2009

day 96

Today was the season opener for the Padres and Tiffany got Jody and I tickets so we could go with her (and her BF, Courtney.) They played the Dodgers and lost unfortunately (1-4) but we had a great time! It was my first time attending an opener. It was cool to see them introduce the whole team and there was a Block Party out on the street just outside the ballpark. I shot a ton of photos so the rest can be viewed here.

Sunday, April 5, 2009

day 95

Daffodils always make me think of my mom. I saw these at the store yesterday and couldn't resist them. Spring is officially here!

Saturday, April 4, 2009

day 94

Arijana and I went out for dinner and a movie tonight. We saw Fast & Furious - it was full of great car chases, crashes, loud music and two very hot men. I am a big fan of both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. I've never taken photos of a movie screen before but I think this one turned out pretty good!

Friday, April 3, 2009

day 93

Spring Break is officially here so we headed out for some beers after work this afternoon. Here's Jody with her 'boys' - she teaches 5th grade with Mike and Ricardo.

Thursday, April 2, 2009

day 92

I went to see Gavin DeGraw tonight at SOMA with Jody and Nanci. What a FANTASTIC show it was! He is incredible live and the small venue was just perfect.

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

day 91

I went to Old Venice in Point Loma with Jody, Pam and Christina to celebrate our good friend Heidi's birthday. Tonight was a lot of fun - great wine, great food, great conversation and great friends. Again, what a welcome break from my couch and my second night out in a row! And have I mentioned, it is one of my very favorite places in San Diego? I started going there with my parents when they still lived out here, almost 20 years ago!
